Burton wellness + recovery

Kristen and Alex initially created Burton Wellness + Recovery in July of 2022 as a shared hobby—Kristen has a background in physical therapy, whereas Alex has a background in Exercise Science and Physiology. Together, they wanted a way to combine their two schools of thought to promote wellness and help others. Since the creation of BWR, that hobby has quickly grown into a passion and career choice.

Kristen graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors in HR and has pursued pediatric physical therapy for the past six years. She is certified in Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), Cupping, Total Motion Release (TMR), as well as Neonatal Touch and Massage.

Alex graduated from St. Gregory’s University with a Bachelors in Exercise Science. He is a certified Exercise Physiologist, Nutritionist, and is currently in school to become a Massage Therapist. Alex is also certified in IASTM and Cupping.

Bodywork

  • myofascial cupping

Myofascial Cupping has been a traditional practice dating back to ancient times. Cupping is a versatile therapy that benefits overall health and effectively addresses localized and systemic pain.

    How it works

Suction from cupping therapy draws blood into the treated area—the force from the suction expands and breaks capillaries under your skin. Your body then replenishes the cupped areas with healthier blood flow and nutrients and can stimulate healing at a cellular level.

  • instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM)

IASTM is a massage technique that uses specialized tools to treat soft tissue injuries and pain.

    How it works

IASTM helps break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions to improve blood flow and lymph circulation, which can speed up the healing process. Adhesions within the soft tissue, which may have developed as a result of surgery, immobilization, repeated strain or other mechanisms, are broken down allowing full functional restoration to occur.

  • stretching + mobility

Practitioner-provided stretching can assist with re-educating the nervous system in a way that increases active range of motion efficiently and effortlessly.

    How it works

Using specific, pain-free techniques can help achieve better flexibility, improved posture, as well as improve any muscle imbalances and asymmetries within the body. A combination of active and passive stretching techniques will be used to achieve the desired outcome.
